How to Calculate Zakat on Gold
Zakat is a mandatory charitable contribution for Muslims who meet specific wealth thresholds. For gold, the Nisab (minimum amount liable for Zakat) is 85 grams of pure gold (24K). If you own less than this, no Zakat is due.
To calculate Zakat on 21K or 18K gold, you must first convert the weight to its 24K equivalent. For example, 100g of 21K gold contains 87.5g of pure gold (100 * 21/24). Since 87.5g is above the 85g threshold, Zakat is due.
The Zakat rate is 2.5% of the total value. It is recommended to check the current market price per gram on the day your Zakat year (Hawl) is complete to ensure accuracy.
